About
The “Tipo Metro CDMX” typeface was developed by Lance Wyman as part of the “Metro” project in the 1970s and is one of the key elements of the visual culture of the Metro Collective Transportation System (STC Metro). This style has become the fundamental icon of public transportation for Mexico City residents.
In this edition, the lowercase typefaces are an “UNOFFICIAL” adaptation for Tipo Metro CDMX, enriching the typeface with a visual style of uppercase and lowercase, thus dispensing with Lance Wyman’s original design as his own work. Additionally, some accentuation characters have been added, extending their use to other languages. The typefaces are an adaptation proposed by Ixipcalli in 2023 to emphasize only the use of lowercase characters; the user is free to use the original uppercase version or the adapted lowercase version.
On September 2, 2025, a new update was released, adjusting margins for two erroneous characters and adding light, bold, and italic variants.
